Why we do what we do the way we do it
Speed training requires three distinct, yet sequential, phases. Athletes must be taught each phase separately but also how they are interconnected.
ACCELERATION
The foundation of speed is Acceleration. Athletes are taught how to get into acceleration positions in order to increase speed efficiently. Acceleration, and its training sibling - deceleration, are always the first speed concepts implemented by MVSC.
MAX VELOCITY (aka: Top End Speed)
After athletes show acceleration competency, they are taught how to get into the appropriate positions required for Max Velocity sprinting. Max Velocity is blended into training early on, but doesn't become the main point of training till later in the training cycle.
SPEED ENDURANCE
Athletes progress toward speed endurance when they've shown competency in both Max Velocity and Acceleration. Sport specific speed endurance needs are taken into account prior to planning this training modality. Admittedly, most athletes don't need this speed component, however MVSC ready to provide it should the need arise.
